Anti-Japanese protests continues in China

Posted: 18 Sep 2012 04:20 PM PDT

Beijing, China – The protests against Japan's purchase of Diaoyu Islands continued on Monday, September 18, which is also the anniversary of Mukden Incident, when the Japanese invaded Manchurian in northeast China in 1931. Although the protests were claimed to be voluntarily, it was very obvious that people were organized together to go on streets on a weekday.

On the early morning of September 18, many protesters showed up outside the Japanese Embassy and consulate in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Witness said there were police officers directing the crowds to get on buses, and then drop them off outside the Embassy or consulate.

In Shenzhen, a witness said the protesters were gathered to go on a parade. People were divided into different teams with a team leader in charge of the parade route.

There were more police force put in to maintain the orders of protests on Monday than over the weekend. Some colleges and schools began to track what their student did during the weekend. Students were asked to report where they have been and what did they do from September 14 to 17.

On the press conference of Chinese Foreign Ministry on September 18, Hong Lei, the spokesman said: "all anti-Japanese protests in China were caused by Japanese Government "illegally" purchasing Diaoyu Islands, it was a spontaneous behavior of the public. It was a strong indignation of the Japanese violating China's sovereignty." FMN
