Now Bonhams auction house in New York are selling the monument in its "World War II: The Pacific Theater" sale on February 22. A sculptor serving in the US Navy, Felix De Weldon, famously created the monument in 1945. It was made from a Pulitzer Prize winning photograph taken by Joe Rosenthal on February 23 the same year. The action immediately drew unanimous condemnation from the international community. Strongly worded statements were issued from the US, South Korea, Japan, Russia, among others. The UN Security Council urgently drafted a new round of sanctions and resolutions against North Korea. China, the sole long-term ally of North Korea, also criticized North Korea'stest. Reportedly, the Chinese Communist Party(CCP) officials summoned North Korea'sambassador to China. Political observers say that the CCP regime and North Korea are both totalitarian, sharing common interests. They say that both are just performing, one singing while the other is acting.
