The new government is headed by Riad Farid Hijab, a former agriculture minister and member of the ruling Baath Party. The president had ordered a major cabinet shake-up last week, bringing in 20 new ministers. Three major portfolios remain unchanged: namely, the Defense, Foreign Affairs and the Interior. The new cabinet also includes two opposition figures. Qadri Jamil, head of the People's Will Party, was named Vice Prime minister, and minister of Domestic Trade. And Ali Haidar, another member of the People's Will Party, is now Minister of National Reconciliation. The cabinet reshuffle came after the introduction of a new contitution and the election of a new parliament, moves aimed at easing the unrest that continues to grip the country.

Wen's visit aims at strengthening economic relations between Asia and Latin America. During the official visit to Chile, the two countries agreed to extend their 2006 free-trade deal and export deals for agricultural products. Wen suggested promoting trade in services and mutual investment, hoping the volume of trade would double by 2015. He urged more cooperation in the mineral industry, infrastructure construction, tourism, and cultural exchanges. Pinera noted that the Chilean side fully agreed with Wen's suggestions, welcoming Chinese enterprises to invest in Chile. After the meeting, the two leaders attended a signing ceremony for the bilateral cooperation documents. |

China Sea Posted: 26 Jun 2012 06:35 PM PDT 视频播放位置 下载安装Flash播放器A patrol team consisting of 4 China Marine Surveillance, or CMS, ships have sailed from south China's coastal city of Sanya to the South China Sea to conduct regular patrols. The team includes patrol ships from the South Sea fleet of the CMS Force. The team is expected to travel more than 4,500 kilometers during the patrols. Formation drills will be conducted if maritime conditions permit. Presently, the CMS Force has 9 helicopters and fixed wing aircraft and more than 280 patrol ships.
