Shenhua players refuse to train-China Take-October-18-BONTV

Posted: 18 Oct 2012 07:59 PM PDT

Go to bon.tv to watch the full episode Shenhua here refers to one of China's top soccer clubs - Shanghai Shenhua Football Club -- which has recently spent substantial amounts on signing a number of foreign players including Niccolas Anelka and Didier Drogba. On Monday however, local media reported that when players arrived at the training ground they simply walked around the pitch before leaving again. The press described the behavior as a "strike" and said the players were protesting because of a delay in receiving their salaries. The club however took exception to the word strike, euphemistically describing the action as the players "making a gentle appeal". The Yangcheng Evening News said the footballers returned to normal training the next afternoon. The paper said the payment delays were due to a dispute between business tycoon and major shareholder Zhu Jun, who bought into the club in 2007, and five state-owned companies who are also shareholders in the club.
