Egyptians Await Constitution Vote Results

Posted: 24 Dec 2012 02:52 PM PST

Egypt is awaiting the results of the constitutional referendum, though early results suggest that it will pass. Egyptians are awaiting the official results of its constitutional referendum vote, and while initial results suggest that it has won approval, citizens remain divided on the issue. Unofficial early results from Saturday showed an approval by some 63 percent of voters, and official results are expected to be announced Monday. Turnout for the vote was low, estimated around 30%. Many Egyptians are hoping the new constitution will bring stability to a country that has been rocked with near two years of turmoil. One supporter of the constitution suggested that the referendum would end Egypt's problems. [Constitution Supporter]: "There was no cheating in the referendum, there was weak support for President Mohamed Mursi. Now the constitution has been passed, those opponents lack evidence. After the referendum, there won't be any problems and Egypt will embark on a new path. We are confident in the Islamic Muslim Brotherhood." However, there is still vocal opposition, with violent demonstrations being held in previous weeks in Alexandria and other provinces around Egypt. Many voices disapprove of the constitution because it was mainly written by Islamists, and suggest it will just lead to more problems down the road. The electoral commission is expected to investigate opposition allegations of voting fraud before announcing official results. For more news and videos ...

An Afghan policewoman shot and killed a civilian US contractor at the police headquarters in Kabul. Full Story: An Afghan policewoman killed a US police advisor in police headquarters of Kabul, the latest of insider attacks committed against foreign allies. Identified as Sgt. She continued to fire at arresting officers, but was apprehended and taken into custody. It appears to be the first time an insider attack was committed by a female member of Afghanistan's security forces. Posted: 23 Dec 2012 09:04 PM PST

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com The new Chinese Communist Party (CCP) secretary general Xi Jinping made moves in the military administration, after succeeding Hu Jintao as the new military leader too. Recently, Xi released the so-called "Ten Prohibitions" towards the high military commanders In his order, Xi required them to refrain from costly actions at troop inspection, and bans luxury receptions and liquor. In addition, Xi attempts to strengthen the control over speeches, given in the army. Reports remarked that the prohibitions indirectly reflect Xi's dissatisfaction with the increasingly serious corruption problem in the military under Jiang and Hu's ruling. Therefore he intends to establish his personal authority by issuing administrative commands. However, analysts doubt that Xi's efforts can make any real improvement. The CCP's Central Military Commission (CMC) had issued "Ten Prohibitions" to the high-level military officers. The full name of the document is, "CMC's Ten Provisions for Behavioral Self-Improvement." "Ten Prohibitions" require military heads to cut needless social activities and strictly control the use of police escort. It bans attending ceremonies of photographing, awarding, ribbon-cutting, foundation laying, unveiling, etc. It also bans issuing congratulatory letters or messages, writing inscriptions and privately presenting speeches or publishing articles on major sensitive issues. Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com For decades, Chinese farmers have been living in hardship at a low social status. Moreover, they are deprived of land and other resources by rampant officials grabbing land, and forced demolitions. This has forced many more farmers to stand up to protect their own interests and rights, joining surging mass protests. Recently, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) authorities alleged to act to increase farmers' income in the near future. The claim has aroused questions from the public, as they think it is word games that the CCP plays to fool civilians. Meanwhile, VPN services, used by netizens for unblocking censorship is continuously blocked by firewall. Experts have suggested netizens use Ultrasurf and Freegate that allow you to bypass firewalls. Both are freeware programs designed as anti-censorship tools, in addition, programs are constantly upgraded. Since Dec. 18, the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) media People's Daily published several articles about control of the Internet. Voice of America reported that, recently, many foreign VPN service providers have complained that their servers are blocked in China. According to incomplete statistics, China has 538 million internet users, it has reached the world's top position. Some netizens use VPN services to bypass China's Great Wall. They have even searched the "sensitive information" that the CCP won't allow them to see. Bill Xia, president of Dynamic Internet Technology Inc. said, VPN was original designed an internet tool. Because of the CCP's blockade, some netizens use it as a tool to bypass censorship. Technically, VPN service providers didn't particularly develop software to break censorship blocks. The IP addresses he designed are stable. The CCP easily blocks VPN servers. Xia suggests netizens use Ultrasurf and Freegate softwares, they are not easily blockaded.
