The company's Party chiefs and local CCP officials pocketed RMB 900 million during early restructuring. Zhou Yongkang was rumored to be one of these officials. Now, the winery employees are being forced to give up their original stakes to the CCP-controlled management. In despair, thousands of employees stood up to protest. What fate awaits Jiannanchun? In August, Qiao Tianming, president of Jiannanchun Group, announced they would raise money from employees. Employees were required to sign a civil trust and have to claim they are voluntarily to do so. It was resisted by all the factory staff, who believed that the promise was a one-sided agreement. Posted: 21 Oct 2012 06:43 PM PDT

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com Every ten years, the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) transition of power takes place in the 18th National Congress. Media internationally are watching who will be the core members of the CCP's next leadership. Recently, the BBC published an article written by Angus Foster. It listed 7 factors that help CCP officials climb up in the regime power structure. The BBC article "How to get to the top of China's Communist Party", states that the Chinese Communist Party is about to unveil the country's next generation of leaders. Almost all will be career politicians who have risen through the ranks. There are 7 critical factors that help one succeed in one of the world's most rigid authoritarian systems. These factors are "start young", "choose your faction", "study morality", "don't flaunt it", "be male", "be ruthless". The article says that the CCP is like the largest private club in the world. All new members have to swear the Party oath before the Party's flag - a yellow hammer and sickle on red background. Membership can bring high status and significant privileges. These include access to restricted information and a chance to meet people who can help with your job prospects. The article states that nowadays, leaders have to climb a tangled bureaucracy, which demands total obedience. The party's absolute control of politics and the media means that any mistake could be your last. If one doesn't follow ...

When The Iron Bird Flies: A Secret War

Posted: 21 Oct 2012 06:39 PM PDT

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com Born in a people's liberation army (PLA) family, the Tibet historian Li Jianglin published her second book, "When the Iron Bird Flies." The book describes the secret war launched by the Chinese Communists in the 1950s in Tibet. The devout Buddhist and honest nature of the Tibetans formed a sharp contrast to the ruthless guns and aircrafts of the Communist Party. Li Jianglin told NTD reporter that the CCP has repressed with violent and destroyed the faith in both Tibet and the Han people. The so-called "Sino-Tibetan conflict" in essence is the "Communist-Tibetan conflict." Between 1956 and 1962, in the name of democratic reforms and "vindication of the insurgency," the PLA conducted massive killing in Tibet. As a result, temple collapsed, doctrine burned, nearly 350000 Tibetans died or were injured, and Buddhist culture was nearly destroyed. Historical data about this bloody repression has never been complete. In the preface, author of "When the Iron Bird Flies," Li Jianglin wrote, "This is one of the longest and largest military operations ever took place in the mainland since the CCP seized power." "From the military point of view, this war of the CCP in Tibet is a complete victory. Strangely enough, it is also the least publicized by the CCP. For decades, this war has been carefully evaded and covered up." Li Jianglin visited hundreds of elderly Tibetans and collected historical documents and ...

The CCP invests 80 billion Yuan in nuclear safety but the situation is still "challenging"

Posted: 21 Oct 2012 06:04 PM PDT

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com Previously, China's Ministry of Environmental Protection (SEPA) acknowledged in a report that the overall situation of China's nuclear safety is challenging. However, since September, SEPA has intensively issued approvals of nuclear plant projects in many cities all over China. As believed by professionals, this suggests that the CCP authority will restart its nuclear programs, which causes experts concern. After September, SEPA extended permits of nuclear safety equipment production for civil use in cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Dalian, and Jiangsu province, among others. SEPA also approved welder permits of nuclear safety equipment for civil use. Furthermore, on October 10th, SEPA certifies 778 non-destructive testing technicians for 116 employing unites. On October 25th, the Second Experience Sharing Seminar of Nuclear Power Plants on Construction will be held in Hangzhou. Professionals believe that these are clear signals that nuclear plant projects by the CCP authority are beginning again. According to some Chinese media, SEPA revealed on October 16th that the 12th Five-year Plan of nuclear safety requires that 80 billion Yuan will be spent improving safety protection of nuclear equipment before 2015. Founder of Information Center for China's Nuclear Safety, He Anquan, remarked that since the 12th Five-year Plan was worked out during Hu Jintao and Wen Jiabao's era, the restart of nuclear programs ...

Three Hundred Billion RMB for Corrupt Officials' Food Expenses and 6.3 RMB Per Day for the Poor

Posted: 21 Oct 2012 06:00 PM PDT

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com The Chinese authorities' data shows that during the so-called anti-poverty work meeting at the end of November 2011, it was determined that a farmer's per capita net income of 2300 yuan annually became a new poverty line. That is 6.3 yuan ($1 USD) per day per capita net income. China has 128 million people living under the poverty line. How do they spend 6.3 yuan a day? Some netizens said, "It is impossible to live with 6.3 yuan a day since water, electricity, and gas all take money too. However, one can go hungry for one day." Let's hear how the lower social level of Chinese talks about their real hardship in life. The data shows that 128 million Chinese, which accounts for nearly one-tenth of the total population of Mainland, fall into the poor population. The new poverty standards follow the farmers' per capita net income of 2300 yuan as a standard since the end of last year. When divided by 365 days a year, it can be seen that nearly 103 million people in China have only 6.3 yuan to spend every day. In response to the call from the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, sponsored by the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation, called on people to participate in a poverty experience by spending only $6.30 yuan for a day. Shanghai businessman Xie Dan commented that without factoring in living expenses, three bus rides cost 6.3 yuan, and it ...

What is Behind Zhongnanhai's Claims of Reform?

Posted: 21 Oct 2012 05:56 PM PDT

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com The 18th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is to be held within three weeks. Voices from Zhongnanhai alleging to make reforms continue to spread through official medias. Reforms were reported to involve various areas, including the economy, livelihood and culture. Is China really keeping up with the worlds trends in democracy? Or is it just CCP hype to create public expectation for its new leadership? Is it also perhaps the regime's tactic to keep maintain CCP rule by making minor changes in some fields. Is this helping Xi Jinping and Li Keqiang break through this dilemma, to make reforms or to maintain CCP one-party rule? In recent months, Zhongnanhai has continuously alleged that it will implement reforms. In suggesting it will make legal reforms, the regime released a new version of the "Two Whatevers", a statement which originally referred to undertaking Chairman Mao's wishes without question. The CCP State Council asserted that the government shall end its control over whatever issues that citizens, legal persons or other organizations can exercise their own discretion. No pre-approval shall be made for whatever items that can be supervised either retroactively or indirectly. All these seem to be a "warm-up" for the new CCP leadership to take office, led by Xi Jinping and Li Keqiang. Internationally, the public holds two point of view on China's future. The first point of ...
