Breaking News: Bo Xilai Expelled from China's Communist Party

Posted: 28 Sep 2012 06:31 AM PDT

Bo Xilai, the former communist party chief of Chongqing, has been expelled from the Chinese Communist Party and will face criminal charges. That's according to an official announcement posted by state-run Xinhua News Agency on the Friday evening before a week-long national holiday. According to Xinhua, Bo committed corruption and abuse of power, took "massive bribes" both directly and through family members, violated Party discipline, and had inappropriate sexual relations. Xinhua said that the investigation revealed clues to "other alleged crimes," which may indicate more charges against Bo when his case goes to trial. The report also indicated that the Party's investigation on Bo included his actions when he was mayor of Dalian, governor of Liaoning province, and commerce minister. That's a change from the previous investigations of Bo's right-hand man Wang Lijun and his wife Gu Kailai, which focused on events in Chongqing and the murder of British businessman Neil Heywood. According to Xinhua, Bo's expulsion from the Party will be ratified at the seventh plenum of the 17th Party Congress, which will be held on November 1. Xinhua also announced that the long-anticipated 18th Party Congress, which will mark a power transition to the next Communist Party leadership, will begin on November 8.

Mexico Gunfight Kills Eleven

Posted: 28 Sep 2012 02:55 AM PDT

Violence is on the rise in the Mexican state of Guerrero, as ten suspected drug gang members and one soldier are killed in a gunfight. Full story: Violence is rising in the Mexican state of Guerrero. The following footage contains some graphic images. Ten suspected drug gang members and one soldier died in a gunfight on Wednesday, after an armed group ambushed soldiers. It is not yet clear which criminal organization the attackers belonged to. Guerrero, a poor state home to beach resort Acapulco, is one of the worst hit areas for warring drug gangs. Last year, military reinforcements began to restore order, but now the violence is returning. In August alone there were 225 murders in the state. Corruption is also rife - 18 local police were arrested on Monday on suspicion of links to organized crime. In the past 6 years in Mexico nearly 60000 people have been killed as drug gangs fight each other as well as security forces. Reducing this criminal violence is one of the biggest challenges awaiting Enrique Pena Nieto, who will replace Felipe Calderon as president of Mexico on December 1. Paris Auto Show Opens Amid Slumping Market

Posted: 27 Sep 2012 11:14 PM PDT

The Paris Auto Show opened on September 27, but the slumping European car market is the show's big story. Full story: The Paris Auto Show got off to its usual fanfare start on Thursday. But this year, the weakened economy is hijacking enthusiasm in the automotive world. While some new cars are turning heads, from the Opel Adam city car to the McLaren P1 supercar, European carmakers are preparing for a future of uncertainty in the European market. Labor challenges and low sales are hurting the European sector, while the rest of the world's automotive market has seen some growth recently. Falling demand for cars means too much production capacity. Manufacturers are hanging on, hoping for recovery. But even unpopular efforts, like closing down assembly plants, have not been enough to improve bottom lines. The author of "Engines of Change," noted the different mood of this year's auto show. [Paul Ingrassia, Author of "Engines of Change"]: "The industry is very sick. Usually at a car show, the cars are the story. This year the economy is the story. There is a lot of over capacity in the middle part of the market. So companies such as Renault, Opel, and especially Peugeot and Fiat, they are all have too many cars, too few buyers, especially because of the economic recession that seems to be setting in." Many are hoping for a 2015 recovery, but some expect it to take even longer, giving carmakers a long, difficult road ahead. But some, including Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn, are ...

October 8th is the jump date for Felix Baumgartner, as the Austrian will attempt to break the world record for the highest altitude skydive. With the capsule tested and ready, the countdown has begun for Felix Baumgartner's world record breaking, supersonic space jump from 23 miles up on October 8. Baumgartner will jump from 23 miles up, or 120 thousand feet, surpassing the current record of 19.47 miles set in 1960 by United States Air Force Captain Joe Kittinger. Full story: [Felix Baumgartner, Skydiver] "Doing something like this, breaking the speed of sound, breaking Joe Kittinger's record has always been my dream since I was a little kid. And I'm so happy that Red Bull are supporting this idea for so many years." The Red Bull Stratos space capsule passed its high-altitude simulation testing after it was repaired of damages from the last test. The 42-year-old Baumgartner already jumped from it 13 miles up in a successful test in March, and again from 18 miles in July, but in the latter jump, the capsule was damaged after a hard landing. [Art Thompson, Technical Project Director] "We're going to have about a week and a half of preparation to get the capsule into place and all the flight systems in place. And then on October 8 we're going to open the flight window." That's when a giant balloon will carry the daredevil in a fully pressurized suit above New Mexico. After reaching an altitude of 23 miles, near the edge of the stratosphere, he will jump. He is expected to ...

Doubts on Panjin' Police "Legal" Shooting

Posted: 27 Sep 2012 09:51 PM PDT

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com The policeman who shot a farmer in forced land acquisition recently was publicized by the Chinese Communist Party' (CCP) official media. In the interview, the police officer defended himself. CCP's local authorities identified that his shooting was legal. The remarks have ignited great discontent in people. The public called for independent investigations of truth. Experts say, the CCP's rule relies on lies. Once its lies get exposed, the regime would face immediate collapse. Zhang Yan, a police officer in Xinglong District, Panjin city, shot dead a farmer and injured several others during land acquisition actions. On September 25, the deputy chief of local police station, defended himself and enacted the incident. Zhang alleged that the killed farmer Wang Shujie's family were "resisting police action using violence". Zhang "subconsciously opened fire" when they were rushing towards him and were a meter away. Panjin Municipal Procuratorate said this was a case of "obstructing police action using violence," and that Zhang Yan acted in a self-defense. Zhang Yan, arm wrapped in a gauze, does not look as "seriously injured" as earlier official news report claimed. The official conclusion and Zhang Yan's defense have outraged the public in China. Lawyers and citizens questioned if Zhang really had to shoot. Why did Zhang fire all the rounds? Why on the scene the shooter can be heard, but the victims are ...

18th Congress Has More Variable Factors

Posted: 27 Sep 2012 09:45 PM PDT

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Central Committee has not announced the date of it's 18th National Congress. The Congress is the time when the CCP changes it's leadership. There are rumors that the Congress will be held during mid-October. A Politburo meeting will be held on September 28. If the Politburo meeting progresses well, the 7th session of the 17th plenary conferences will be held on October 2. Following this, the CCP will announce the date of the 18th National Congress and the decision on Bo Xilai. Analysts think this Politburo meeting is critical, and may place more variable factors on the 18th Congress. The "Deutsche Welle" quoted a message from Beijing that a Politburo meeting will held on September 28. In this, CCP leaders will discuss three issues: 1. Finalizing the names of the new CCP leadership to be announced during the 18th National Congress. 2. Determine the date of the 7th session. 3. Make the final decision on the case of Bo Xilai. Analysts highlight that although rumors suggested the 18th Congress will be held in mid-October, there has not been an announcement from the CCP. So, the Politburo meeting is critical. Gao Yu is a former reporter of the "China News Agency", and is now a independent Beijing commentator. Gao Yu told NTD that normally the date of the CCP leadership changing congress is announced in August. But this year, Xinhua News Agency didn't release a related ...

This is a concern not only of the overseas media, but a heated discussion by mainland netizens on Weibo too. Recently, "6688.com" founder Laorong posted this message on Weibo: "Bo Xilai case will be published on October 15. Veteran cadres should convey this tonight, giving him a sentenced of 20 years in prison." Although this posting was soon removed, its content has been widely spread. Netizen Henan Xinyang Liu Kai said: "After Wang Lijun's verdict, Bo will be dismissed from his post and from CCP, and transferred to the judicial administration; but the decision won't be made until the 18th National Congress of the CCP. Taking into account his so-called "offensive harboring" of the murderer and possible bigger corruption than Wang Lijun, Bo's prison term might be longer than Wang Lijun's." Posted: 27 Sep 2012 09:42 PM PDT

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com Director of Shaanxi's Provincial Administration Bureau for Work Safety, Yang Dacai was called "watch brother" by Chinese netizens. As Yang's smile at a deadly bus crash scene cost him the job, Yang's backstage supporter, deputy governor of Shaanxi Li Jinzhu has caught the public's attention. It is said that Li was so excited in defending Yang Dacai that he broke a cup while criticizing what he called "Internet mobs". Li's act quickly drew netizens to do a "Human flesh search" on him. However, the posts about Li Jinzhu were found to be deleted overnight as if China's Internet world was overshadowed by a huge hand. Analysts remarked that, there's a limit line for the CCP's anti-corruption drive, and it won't punish officials at the ministerial level. Yang Dacai is called "watch brother" since he owns a dozen luxury watches. Since Yang's case was put into investigation by the provincial commission of discipline inspection, deputy governor of Shaanxi Li Jinzhu was revealed to have shouted angrily in a conference of the provincial standing committee. Li said, "We shouldn't be confused by those 'Internet mobs'. Even if Dacai has a corruption problem, I don't think he should be investigated. We can't investigate him just to accept the request of 'mobs'. Instead, we should object to such a bad tendency from Internet users. This is extremely important for our party's prestige among citizens , as well as toward ...

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com The United Nations Human Rights Council meeting was recently held in Geneva, Switzerland. The editor-in-chief of The Epoch Times was invited to speak, and she exposed the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) continued practice of organ harvesting, stealing and selling organs of living Falun Gong practitioners. The crime shocked representatives of many countries present, and the majority of the representatives said they'd give the issue further attention. The Foreign Affairs Committee in the US House of Representatives also previously held a hearing concerning the CCP's organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners, where the experts put forward a large number of evidence to prove the existence of this offense. Let's listen to their comments. On September 25, the Minghui website reported on the 21st meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council held in the Palais des Nations, Geneva, and on September 18, International Educational Development proposed for an urgent investigation into the human rights tragedy in China regarding organ harvesting and selling from living Falun Gong practitioners.
