Timely Massacre? 'Aim to make Russia & China change stance on Syria'

Heavy clashes continue in the Syrian capital, as activists claim rebels have shot down an army helicopter over Damascus. The footage allegedly shows a military helicopter engulfed in flames shortly before hitting the ground. Activists have accused Syrian security forces of killing more than 300 people in the town of Daraya, near the capital. The government says it carried out an anti-terror operation in the area. Britain responded to the alleged massacre, arguing that it highlighted the urgent need for international action against Assad. While, the Syrian president has vowed to stand firm in the face of what he describes to be a foreign plot against his nation. For more on this, RT talks to UK journalist Neil Clark. 2012's Gran Milonga Tango festival comes to a close. Full Story: Hundreds of couples danced on stage as this year's Gran Milonga, Buenos Aires World Tango Festival came to a close. The Great National Milonga, which ran from August 14th to the 28th, closed with a big performance in front of an audience, which included many of the competitors in this year's Tango World Championship. Both the dance and music of Tango is deeply ingrained in Argentine culture; it can be traced to the the late 19th century in poorer areas of Buenos Aires. In 2009. UNESCO added the activity to the cultural world heritage list. Organized by the city's culture ministry, the Argentine capital now holds the Gran Milonga Nacional annually. World's Biggest Puzzle Solved In Siberia

Watch residents in Novosibirsk, Russia, brave the elements to piece together the world's biggest jigsaw puzzle... Full Story: Residents in the Russian city of Novosibirsk have pieced together a giant jigsaw puzzle 300 square meters in size. The huge jigsaw sits proudly outside the State Academic Ballet and Opera Theatre. 1023 pieces come together to recreate the world famous painting "Self Portrait" by Albrecht Durer. The fun activity forms part of a series of events held across the country to celebrate the Year of Germany in Russia. [Julia Hanske, Goethe Institute in Novosibirsk, Head]: "We conceived this idea a long time ago with our colleagues in Moscow. The event was initiated by the city of Nuremberg where Albrecht Durer comes from. They created the idea and offered it to us as a part of the Year of Germany in Russia. We were pleased to organize this puzzle gathering in our city. We are happy to see citizens and guests of the city putting this big icon of art together." More than 200 people took part, spending over three hours in the rain and cold to assemble the giant puzzle. [Alesya Zadvornova, Event Participant]: "The picture is very big, and there were lots of people wishing to participate, forming large queues to get their puzzle piece. The event is very well organized, people were putting pieces down one by one forming the rows. The only biggest obstacles were probably rain and a relatively cold weather." Dog Gets Artificial Legs

This Mexican dog had its paws chopped off by a brutal criminal gang -- now see it run happily on new prosthetic legs... Full Story: A dog in Mexico has been given a new start in life after receiving two prosthetic legs. The dog, called Pay de Limon, allegedly had his two front legs cut off by members of a criminal gang in the city of Fresnillo. Witnesses say they had seen the dog with members of a criminal gang before he was mutilated. Pay de Limon is now being taken care of by Milagros Caninos, or Canine Miracles, a charitable foundation for dogs in Mexico City. [Patricia Ruiz, Milagros Caninos, Founder]: "Pay de Limon had the misfortune of running into an organized crime group, in Fresnillo, Zacatecas, Mexico, and they used him to practice cutting off each one of his paws, like they do when they cut fingers off human beings that have been kidnapped. Unfortunately, Pay de Limon had to live through that, but thanks to a few good people who rescued him, Pay de Limon was able to come to Milagros Caninos and here we try to give him the best life possible." The canine charity raised over $6000 in donations to pay for Pay de Limon to receive two prosthetic legs. Molds of the dogs legs were sent to OrthoPets, a company based in Denver, Colorado which specializes in animal prosthetics.
