A Japanese media published information, that the recently held CCP elites' meeting in Beidaihe decided to hold Bo responsible for his actions. On August 26, Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun reported, CCP's elite made decision on Bo's fate at Beidaihe's meeting. The outcome is to expel Bo from the party and investigate his responsibility for the former Chongqing vice mayor Wang Lijun's fleeing to the US consulate. The report also said that Bo would likely be stripped of his status as a delegate to the National CCP Congress. This is expected to clear the obstacles during the investigation on Bo's crimes. The Asahi Shimbun referred to sources that have contacts with officials who attended the Beidaihe meeting. They said Hu Jintao and his allies overrode objections by Jiang Zemin's faction and other strong supporters of Bo. The report also said that the official announcement on Bo's punishment is expected to come in the meeting of the Central Committee, scheduled right before the 18th Congress. The report says, Bo's expulsion shows Hu has maintained the upper hand in decision-making during the power struggle of the top-level leaders for the 18th Congress. Beijing Regime Helpless to Tackle China's Bad Economy

Posted: 26 Aug 2012 07:15 PM PDT

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com China has seen a significant slump in export growth. Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Premier Wen Jiabao recently traveled to inspect Guangdong Province. Wen Jiabao highlighted the hardship in stabilizing economic growth for the second half of the year. Wen has urged Guangdong authorities to "assure demand from overseas markets by all means". Economists have negated the feasibility of "stabilizing foreign demand". They concluded that the CCP regime has been completely helpless in tackling China's economic slowdown. On August 24 and 25, Wen Jiabao, accompanied by Guangdong CCP Chief Wang Yang, inspected Guangdong. Wen visited the cities of Guangzhou, Foshan and Dongguan. He stressed stabilizing overseas market demand and speeding up of export sector's structural improvement. Wen Jiabao said that Guangdong's new export orders index revealed a tough export situation. The goal of "stabilizing economic growth" in the second half of 2012 would be difficult to achieve, Wen Jiabao claimed. Critic Jason Ma states that China's export was one of the three major engines of economic growth. However, it has now become a burden to the country's economic development. Jason Ma: "Regions in Guangdong, like Dongguan, fully embody the current economic problems in China. These places typically centralize international plants, but the economic growth is almost zero." Public data show that China's economy has slowed down for ...

162 Military Senior Cadres Dismissed, Army Mutiny Suspected

Posted: 26 Aug 2012 07:11 PM PDT

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com After former Chongqing Public Security Bureau Wang Lijun fled to the US Consulate and exposed Bo Xilai's coup attempt, Hu has conducted a series of anti-corruption to clean out the Jiang faction in the military. Between last December and this mid-July, there have been 162 commanders at the deputy corps level and division-level who retired. Worrying about the after shock in the army, the number of generals purged will be less than the 400originally planned, and the scheduled early September shift among the People's Liberation Army (PLA) general departments, corps, and 7 military regions has also been delayed to mid October. It is analyzed that the CCP corruption is deeply rooted in the army, and difficult to eradicate. The CCP is losing control of the armed forces, and army mutiny is likely to occur. According to Resolution 916 issued by the Central Military Commission, there has been 162 commanders at deputy corps level and division-level dismissed from the army military systems. They included 74 members from 27 provincial army commissions, 2 from the Beijing Garrison; 12 from the three municipalities garrison; 21 from corps, 12 from the Air Force, 15 from the Navy, 11 from the military academies subsidiary to the Central Military Commission, and 15 from defense-related research and production units under the Department of Defense. Song Dynasty at 100 billion Yuan, speculated to produce another "ghost town".

Posted: 26 Aug 2012 07:07 PM PDT

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com Recently, the city government of Kaifeng in Henan province presented a restoration project costing over 100 billion Yuan. The project plans to transform its old town into a 20-square-kilometer tourism zone. This is to restore the historical outlook of "Bianjing" city, the capital of Northern Song Dynasty. For the past two years, foreign media have reported that many Chinese cities where buildings are newly developed are seldom used so that they look like "ghost towns". Similarly, Kaifeng's project has been speculated to produce the next "ghost town". Another unrealistic project of city building. Kaifeng's project of "restoration of Bianjing outlook" aims to develop tourism with the city's historical background as the capital of the Song Dynasty. However, according to media reports, just the demolition fee of this "restoration" project will cost as much as 100 billion. More than 80000 residents of old town will be forced to move. Some media report remarked that the project is an extremely dangerous gamble for Kaifeng city. Their annual revenue is less than 5 billion Yuan. Scholar of China Academy of Art, Wu Zuolai remarked that most local governments wanted to benefit from ancient architecture and traditional culture rather than appreciating their historical value. Replacing civilian houses with fake historic sites actually destroys the social ecology of civil life. Most residents' families have lived ...

New Changes to CCP Stability Maintenance

Posted: 26 Aug 2012 07:04 PM PDT

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com Recently, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) used policies of 'maintaining stability' to deal with its crisis of ruling power. Maintaining stability policies are dominated by the Political Judiciary Committee. Domestic Security Division personnel and police have been cracking down on ordinary people. The Central Political and Judiciary Committee was the second most powerful unit within the CCP structure. After the "Wang Lijun event" and the "Bo Xilai event", the Committee is struggling to survive. The attitude of personnel involved in 'maintaining stability' has started to change. They have stopped following the crackdown orders. On July 2, a large-scale protest took place in Shifang, Sichuan Province. The local people walked in the streets, protesting against a project that planned to manufacture molybdenum, copper and other metals in the locality. The project could cause serious environmental damage. The local government deployed a large number of military troops and police to crack down on the protest. However, the local people did not stop protesting. Eventually, the local government had to announce that the project could cause substantial environmental pollution, and so plans would be revoked. The Shifang people's courage shown in the protest was very impressive to the outside world. On the other hand, those who participated in the crackdown have commented that they were only following orders ...

Giant Panda Gives Birth

Posted: 26 Aug 2012 04:09 AM PDT

A giant panda gave birth to her fourth cub in a south-west China breeding center on Saturday August 25. The panda, named Yuan Yuan, gave birth to the tiny, wriggling cub then picked it up in her mouth, placed it on her belly and licked it clean. Considered a national treasure, the giant panda is seen as having come back from the brink of extinction, but remains under threat from logging, agriculture and China's rapid urbanization. There are an estimated 1600 living wild in China, mostly in Sichuan. Around 300 are found in captivity around the world, most of them in China.

Chinese Gardens Celebrated in Art: Met Museum Exhibition

Posted: 25 Aug 2012 02:53 PM PDT

For centuries, the traditional Chinese garden has been an idyllic paradise and a source of creative inspiration for scholars and artists. In traditional Chinese culture, the garden is a place to discover one self. The garden serves as a place for self-cultivation, solitary contemplation, as well as for social or literary gatherings. For the first time, the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art displays its entire permanent collection of artwork celebrating these recurring themes in Chinese gardens. [Mike Hearn, Met Museum Asian Art Department Head]: "It introduces one thousand years of Chinese painting history, all focused on the theme of Chinese gardens, and how gardens have been an inspiration for artists throughout the centuries." "Chinese Gardens—Pavilions, Studios, Retreats" features over 60 paintings—together with ceramics, carved bamboo, lacquer ware, metalwork, textiles, and photographs. Met Museum Asian Art Department Head and curator of the exhibition, Mike Hearn talks about the key themes and elements in Chinese gardens. [Mike Hearn, Met Museum Asian Art Department Head]: "They initially were built to attract immortals. Immortals are another theme that percolates throughout garden history, as well as pavilions, which are always the focal point in gardens. Either you built a pavilion at a beautiful spot for the view or it became itself part of the view." One of the highlights of the exhibition is "The Palace of Nine Perfections" by a 17th century artist. The ...

Discovering China - The Han Dynasty-China's FIrst Golden Age

Posted: 25 Aug 2012 02:51 PM PDT

The Han Dynasty began in 206 BC when a man named Liu Bang, who had been born a peasant, led a group of generals to overthrow the Qin dynasty. This started a 400-year period of prosperity—sometimes referred to as China's first golden age. The capital of the dynasty was at Chang'an—one of the biggest cities in the world at the time. The Han dynasty saw massive territorial expansion, with China's area almost doubling. The Han defeated the tribes to North and signed treaties with the clans to the West. This made travel safer and led to the establishment of what became known as the Silk Road. This was the trade route connecting China with the Roman Empire thousands of miles away in Europe. The Han also saw massive cultural developments, with Confucianism—which had been suppressed under the Qin dynasty—rising to become the state philosophy of China's aristocracy. Officials were evaluated on their conduct, according to Confucian philosophy and an Imperial University was established to train them. It was also during the Han period that Buddhism spread to China. Buddhism's emphasis on compassion and universal salvation appealed to the masses. Along with Confucianism and Taoism, Buddhism became one of China's three main religions that would dominate the faith of the Chinese people for the next two thousand years. The Han dynasty gave rise to some of China's most well known historical figures, such as Sima Qian who wrote "The Record of the Grand Historian"—the definitive record of ...
