The China State Oceanic Administration says that Conoco Phillips is responsible for the accident. According to the report, the operator of the 19-3 oil field, did not follow procedures and inappropriately managed the accident. In addition there were no such safety precautions taken beforehand. They two joint partners, China's National Offshore Oil Corp and Conoco Phillips were fined 260 million dollars for marine life damage, to which Phillips will account for 65% of it. The US based company has also been asked to pay 150 million dollars to compensate the loss of marine life and resources in areas of the Liaoning province. CNOOC will also pay up 55 million dollars for ecological protection. The first oil spill occurred on June 4 last year, again June 17th , and a third time in July. The media had describe the spill to be 6 times the size of singapore but was not reported until 31 days later.

The State Council, or China's cabinet, has approved the establishment of the prefectural-level city of Sansha to administer the three island groups and their surrounding waters, while the government seat will be stationed on Yongxing Island, part of the Xisha Islands, according to a statement from the Ministry of Civil Affairs. The council has abolished the county-level Administration Office for Xisha, Zhongsha and Nansha Islands, which was also stationed on Yongxing Island, the statement said. A spokesperson of the Ministry of Civil Affairs said Thursday that the setting up of Sansha city will help to improve China's "administrative management on Xisha, Zhongsha and Nansha islands and their future development." "It is also conducive to protecting the oceanic environment of the South China Sea," the spokesperson said.

Hermes wins suit against imitators - Biz Wire June 22 - BONTV

The manhattan court says the factories must pay 100 million dollars each to Hermes and Louis Vuitton for profiting from the fakes. After a year long investigation, French Police had cracked down on the international counterfeiting ring that manufactured, distributed and sold imitation products in the US Europe and Asia. 12 criminal suspects involved were arrested. According to reports by the French media, two former employees were dismissed as well, but no details yet as to if they were connected to the fraud. The French National Anti-Counterfeiting Committee says that each year, 30-thousand to 40-thousand job and 7.6 billion dollars are loss due to imitation luxury goods impacting impact the genuine market.

In a statement released by the government, some websites have used the negative media as a way blackmail targeted organizations and individuals for money. Often times writing damaging new stories and threatening to publish them otherwise. Other online schemes found, sold counterfeit media licenses and journalism certificates. After this incident, the government has vowed to eradicate furthermore online scams. In a move to promote a safe and productive web-usage, the government will be honoring 100 "civilized websites." Chinese registered websites can submit applications starting in August.
