The Ming Dynasty—which started in 1368—has been widely attributed as the pinnacle of classical Chinese garden art. These famous Ming Dynasty-style gardens can be found in the City of Suzhou in China's southeast Jiangsu province. Today, some of these classical gardens are World Heritage Sites. Here in New York—nestled within the Staten Island Botanical Garden—is an authentic, but modern built, Chinese scholar's garden. [Dr. Ron Altman, NY Chinese Scholar's Garden Representative Board Member]: "This is a Ming-style garden, basically from middle of the Ming period to the end of the Ming period." It is a miniature compared to some in Suzhou. [Lynn Kelly, Snug-Harbor Cultural Center, Botanical Garden President & CEO]: "We're the first scholar's garden in the United States. It's about one acre in size, and it's located here at Snug Harbor Cultural Center in Staten Island." The New York Chinese Scholar's Garden shows the characteristics of traditional Ming-style Chinese gardens. Winding garden paths are paved with pebbles—leading to waterfalls—and ponds with colorful fish. Rocks, bamboo, pine, and plum trees—and a diverse variety of plants—are specially selected for their shape, seasonal character, and symbolic meaning. But not everyone in China could ...

Indonesian authorities are still trying to determine the cause of Thursday's jet crash while the country's air force is adamant that the plane was in top condition. Agung Sasongkojati (Indonesian Air Force spokesperson) "The plane was flight worthy and we are still using this model," said at a press briefing after the crash. The plane took off from its military airbase in a heavily populated area of the capital Jakarta. askito (eyewitness) "I saw the plane tilting, then I heard a loud explosion, it was like a bomb," The explosion ignited a blaze that ripped through homes and sent thick smoke into the sky. Rescue workers and military officials soon rushed to the scene and scrambled through the wreckage to find survivors. The jet fuel burned 8 homes in the area before it was finally put out. "All seven on board were killed, three people from the houses have also perished," Agung Sasongkojati said. The three killed on ground were 2 toddlers and their nanny. [Hou Zhuhui, Microblogger]: "The public is losing confidence in food safety and medicine safety. This is the major issue in Chinese society. But critics say the amount that China gave was too much for a developing economy and may have ulterior motives behind the scenes. At the G20 in Los Cabos, Mexico, China pledged $43 billion to the International Monetary Fund. Expert comments that while the Chinese are suffering from high inflation and over one hundred million of them are living in poverty, China should not have promised more than four times the funds agreed by Brazil, India and Russia. Nations from around the world pledged a total of $456 billion to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). China's pledge ranks third, second only to Japan and Germany. It accounts for nearly half of the total contribution pledged by emerging markets, India, Russia and Brazil committed US$ 10 billion each, and South Africa $2 billion. The big amount gives China greater voting power in the IMF. Professor Frank Xie from the University of South Carolina Aiken's School of Business says there is no need for China to put in so much money. [Professor Frank Xie, Univ. of South Carolina]: "As part of the Foreign Exchange Reserves, in fact, this amount could lead to huge inflation in China. They also lined up and formed a human wall to stop police from taking Li Zhen away. The residents confronted the police for nearly two hours. The police still forcibly took away Li Zhen. The residents, angry at police, proposed a joint letter asking for the release of Li Zhen. Immediately, many people responded. Some people spontaneously provided paper, pen and inkpad. Following the notice on June 18 that Wei Jinfeng, the deputy director of Guangdong Provincial Finance Bureau, was investigated on suspicion of serious disciplinary problems, the "First Financial Daily" reported on June 19 that the Guangdong Discipline Inspection and Supervision net revealed that Xie Pengfei, the director of Guangdong Provincial Development Research Center, was also investigated due to serious disciplinary problems. It is unknown whether the two cases are related since they took place at almost the same time. An official from the Guangdong Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection analyzed that regarding the position Xie Pengfei is in, there are two possibilities. One is he became corrupt in the open biddings for research funding, the other is he helped others to profit. It's reported that Guangdong Province launched a Guangdong style anti-triad initiative last February, named, "Three Strike, Two Build."
