Go to bon.tv to watch the full episode According to the Legal Daily Newspaper, a Beijing-based lawyer, Dong Zhengwei, e-mailed the Ministry of Environmental Protection on January 30 asking it to publish information about an extensive survey into the state of pollution in China. The survey, which began in 2006, tested 200000 samples of soil, ground water and farm produce nationwide, producing millions of pieces of data, but its conclusions were never made public. Dong asked about testing methods, results, causes of soil pollution and its prevention. However he said when the Ministry replied last Sunday, the 22-page letter didn't include any information about the survey's results. And why was that? Well, according to Dong the ministry said the information was a "state secret". Speaking to the newspaper Dong said slammed the excuse as unfounded, because regulations on disclosure of government information actually allow for the release of so-called 'state secrets' if they involve public interests. This poster has his own theory as to why information of such vital interest to the public should be hushed up by the very government agency charged with protecting the environment.
