euronews cinema - Chinese famine and Mari wives at Rome Festival

Posted: 12 Nov 2012 09:57 AM PST

www.euronews.com Back to 1942 An epic movie about a devastating Chinese famine has finally made it to the screen at the Rome Film Festival. 'Back to 1942' is a no-holds-barred telling of one of modern China's most grim times. It is based in Henan province where the famine had forced millions to search for food. Even Fan the wealthy landowner had to join the escape to avoid starvation. The film also features the real-life American journalist Theodore White who was shocked by what he saw there. The actor who plays him, Adrien Brody, said: "When you are able to create awareness of something as horrendous as mass starvation, and refugees that are not being attended to; Theodore White by his tenacity was able to put some pressure onto the Chinese government, by exposing this." It is directed by Feng Xiaogang, who received praise for the big scale of his depiction, but some criticism for over-labouring the message. Celestial Wives of Meadow Mari Russian director Alexey Fedorchenko showcased his work the 'Celestial Wives of Meadow Mari'. It is centred on the Mari ethnic group living in the Ural mountains. It is filmed in the traditional Mari language and was filmed in Mari villages 150 kilometers from Yekaterinburg. All the characters appear to have names beginning with the letter O. There is little plot to speak of, but the film follows 22 separate stories that interweave, many of them heavily focused on sex. Fedorchenko said: "Eight years ago I read a book on the Mari by Denis ...

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com USA Today reported on February 28 that China established internet security research departments in 10 universities over the past 5 years, They openly study effective methods of attacking US electricity facilities. The report quotes the editor of American magazine Science, that Chinese universities published studies of cyber espionage, including "How to Effectively Attack US Power Network" in 2009. The editor points out that these schools recruit fresh blood for the Chinese army. The Chinese army is accused of large-scale internet attacks against US corporations and governments. They believe that the CCP's internet attacks rely upon its hundreds of computer departments and research institutes. The CCP network of academic institutions serves the main purpose of domestic surveillance. This is followed by cyber war and espionage. 2 March 2013 North Korea threatens USA NUCLEAR attack on USA by December 2013

Posted: 12 Feb 2013 03:19 AM PST

2 March 2013 BREAKING NEWS North Korea threatens Nuclear attack on USA by December 2013 - President Obama called North Korea's third successful nuclear test a threat to US national security. end times news update 3-2-13 watch earthquake from nuclear blast www.youtube.com The White House released the statement early Tuesday after North Korea detonated a miniaturized nuclear device at a northeastern test site, state media said, defying UN Security Council orders to shut down atomic activity or face more sanctions and international isolation. The underground explosion could take North Korea a big step closer to its goal of building a nuclear warhead small enough to be mounted on a long-range missile that could threaten the United States. Official state media said the test was conducted in a safe manner and is aimed at coping with "outrageous" US hostility that "violently" undermines the North's peaceful, sovereign rights to launch satellites. North Korea faced sanctions after a December launch of a rocket the UN and Washington called a cover for a banned missile test. North Korea said the test was merely its "first response" to US threats, and said it will continue with unspecified "second and third measures of greater intensity" if Washington maintains its hostility. After the blast took place a North Korean newsreader urged the Korean People's Army (KPA) to prepare for combat against its foes. She stressed that If an order was given "the KPA should blow up the stronghold ...

CNN's Steven Jiang was with Bale as guards thwarted the actor's efforts DONGSHIGU VILLAGE, China (CNN) -- As Christian Bale approached an impromptu checkpoint leading to this tiny village in eastern China, four men blocking the narrow path started marching toward him in menacing unison. "I am here to see Chen Guangcheng," the Hollywood actor said and I translated, with correspondent Stan Grant and cameraman Brad Olson next to us. Amid the scuffling and yelling, dozens more guards in olive-green, military-style overcoats -- and two gray minivans -- emerged from the other side of the checkpoint, all coming toward us. China restaurant sign and a Japanese island

Posted: 28 Feb 2013 01:30 PM PST

A restaurant in China put up a sign basically stating they will not serve Japanese, Filipinos, Vietnamese and dogs. The sign read: "This restaurant does not receive the Japanese, the Philippines, the Vietnamese and dog." The causation was due to China's territorial claims with Japan, the Philippines, and Vietnam. Some are accusing the restaurant owner of being a racist. Huh? China, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Japan are all of the same race: Asian. Recently Japan discovered Rare Earth Minerals (REE), in the waters off their island 1148 miles southeast of Japan called Minamitorishima or Minami-tori-shima, or Marcus Island. Rare Earth minerals are needed for the production of many electronic gadgets. Given China's belligerent and lunatic behavior in the past it can be expected the commies will resurrect an ancient map proving the island belongs to China. They seem to think any territory in the region with natural resources belong to The Middle Kingdom (China). There are two group of islands in the South China Sea, the Spratly Islands close to Vietnam, the Philippines, and Malaysia, not China. Also the Paracel Islands closer to Vietnam (another commie land). The two groups of islands are claimed simultaneously by Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, and commie-led China. Also the Senkaku Islands belonging to Japan are being claimed by the commies in China. The commies in China claim the islands belong to them because they have old maps drawn up by some past Chinese ...

China Mekong killers before execution

Posted: 01 Mar 2013 04:13 PM PST

Four foreign men have been executed in China for the murder of 13 Chinese fishermen on the Mekong river in 2011, after being paraded on state TV. The men were put to death by lethal injection in Kunming, Yunnan province. CCTV News broadcast live footage of the men being taken from their cells to the execution site, though it did not show the moment of death. Many social media users in China have reacted angrily, condemning the broadcast as insensitive. It is believed to be the first time in China's recent history that live footage of condemned criminals being taken to their execution has been broadcast. Since CCTV is controlled by the Chinese authorities, there is no doubt that the green light was given by top government officials, the editor of BBC Chinese, Raymond Li, reports. It seems that the Chinese government wants to send out a clear signal to the general public that they are taking very tough action against foreign criminals, he adds. Some have applauded the move, but many Chinese internet users spoke out against the special programme, in what some are saying was a throw-back to the execution rallies of China's past. Among the prisoners was Naw Kham, a Burmese man thought to have been one of the most powerful warlords in the Golden Triangle of Thailand, Laos and Burma. China's state television channel CCTV aired an interview with Naw Kham on Thursday. "I couldn't sleep properly over last two days. I miss my mother. It is really painful that I can't be with my ...
