Cardinals Meet at Vatican For Second Day of Meetings

Posted: 05 Mar 2013 03:57 PM PST

Cardinals meet at the Vatican for a second day of talks to find a new pope. Full Story: Cardinals began meeting at the Vatican for a second day on Tuesday for another round of talks to find a new pope. The Vatican appears to be aiming to have a new pope elected next week and officially installed several days later so he can preside over the Holy Week ceremonies starting with Palm Sunday on March 24, and culminating in Easter the following Sunday. The general congregations, closed-door meetings between a papacy and the conclave, will now only be held in the mornings. The list of challenges facing the crisis-hit Church could take weeks to debate, but the Vatican seems keen to have only a week of talks, so the 115 cardinal electors, those under 80, can enter the Sistine Chapel for the conclave next week. High on the agenda will be Church governance after last year's Vatileaks scandal exposed corruption and rivalries in the Vatican's Curia bureaucracy. Cardinals expect to be briefed on a secret report to the pope on the problems it highlighted. For more news and videos visit ☛ ntdtv.org Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ on.fb.me

Yves Saint Laurent Fashion Show Styles Grunge

Posted: 05 Mar 2013 03:54 PM PST

Hedi Slimane's second collection for iconic French label Yves Saint Laurent pays tribute to the grunge era. Full story: Hedi Slimane put on yet another riveting show complete with hipster rock 'n' roll music and dramatic lighting when he revealed his second collection for the iconic French label Yves Saint Laurent inside the Grand Palais national monument on Monday, during Paris Fashion Week. Slimane's autumn/winter 2013-14 collection was an ode to grunge with Kurt Cobain-era grunge plaid shirts layered over Courtney Love-style rock chic black leather dresses, sparkly tights, and studded motorcycle boots. To take the theme further, the models sported unwashed messy locks that made them seem as if they had just rolled out of bed after a hard night of partying. The late Yves Saint Laurent, who died in 2008, is credited for inventing streetwear and democratizing fashion. Slimane's latest collection paid tribute to this aspect of Saint Laurent by showing looks on the catwalk that you could easily find on the streets of downtown Los Angeles- where Slimane currently lives and works. Since gaining artistic control of Yves Saint Laurent, Slimane has stayed faithful to the essence of the brand but has injected a fresh shot of modernity and edginess. Paris is the final leg of the international Fashion Week whirlwind following New York, London and Milan, and runs from February 26 to March 6.

Full Story: About 100 homes were evacuated in Northern Ireland's second city Londonderry on Monday, after four mortar bombs were found in a van in a residential area of the city, police said. Police blocked roads overnight and checked vehicles moving around the city. Local nationalist politician Pat Ramsey said police detected the bombs in transit. I clearly understand they may have rammed the vehicle. A number of people have been arrested. There's clearly worry and concern from the police. Because I do know upwards of 100 homes have been evacuated to date, a number of them of older people. Ambulances have just passed as you have seen yourself. So there is clear worry from the police that they have detected, in transit, a bomb going to somewhere in the city tonight." CCP Leaders: "Every One of Them is Sick"

Posted: 04 Mar 2013 08:47 PM PST

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com It is widely known that in authoritarian countries, the leaders' health is deemed as a state secret. Their condition would never be disclosed during illness, and kept secret even after death. Since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) came to power, its leaders' health conditions have been a sensitive topic. Recently, overseas media commented on the health issues about Jiang Zemin, his son, and Hu Jintao. The article pointed out that "every one of them is sick." Let's see our report in detail. An overseas article targets the news about Xi Jinping's "injury in the back" in September 2012. The "illness" later led to a cancellation of Xi meeting with foreign guests. The article said that the new leader's "injury in the back" has become a very sensitive term for media and the public. The article mentions China's nationwide great flood in 1999. Except Hu Jintao, all other six then-members of the CCP Politburo Standing Committee went to inspect the scene of the disaster. Hu Jintao's absence was said to be due to a poor physical health condition. In 2012, before the 18th Party Congress, the question of whether Hu Jintao would fully withdraw from politics attracted much attention. What followed were rumors that "Hu wants to withdraw completely, due to poor health." The news did not disclose details on Hu's illness. However, it was alleged that Hu's wife had breast cancer and was under treatment. In January 2011 ...

Village Newspaper in Hebei Leads Freedom of Press Trend

Posted: 04 Mar 2013 08:43 PM PST

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com Two local newspapers in Nan-Gao-Ying Village, near Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province have started a battle. One is full of Chinese Communist Party propaganda and the other is reflecting the voice of the people. Villagers are fighting for their rights to elect village officials, and standing against demolition of houses, as well as the closure of the village-run enterprises. The two newspapers battle, which is rarely seen in a media censored China, has attracted the attention of foreign media. Nan-Gao-Ying Village was once an affluent village with 8000 residents. Many villagers worked in local pharmaceutical or fertilizer factories. In 2009, after He Chun-Lu was elected as secretary of the village committee, villagers were forced from their homes. Their land was sold to real estate developers for the construction of luxury apartment buildings. In the end, only 200 villagers stayed, but their water-supply has been cut off. The villagers believe that He Chun-Lu sold their land, and fattened his own bank account. He Jian-Guo, editor of the "Voice of the People," told NTD Television that establishing the newspaper originated from some unfair things that happened in the village. Villagers informed the government a few times. There were no results, so they are using the newspaper to expose them, and to help people publicly. He Jian-Guo: "Villagers don't have the right to know whether village enterprises make ...
