Azarenka beats injured Li na - Media Watch - January 28,2013 - BONTV China

Go to www.bon.tv to watch the full episode Belarus world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka beat injured Li Na of China in three sets to retain her Australian Open title here on Saturday in a dramatic women's singles final at the Melbourne Park. The match was stopped three times, twice when sixth-seeded Li twisted her left ankle and took medical timeouts and once for a fireworks display as it was the Australian National Day. Trailing 1-3 in the second set, Li sprained her left ankle for the first time. The problem restricted Li's movement and the defending champion managed to close out the set 6-4. Li got her ankle struck again in the fourth game of the deciding set while she was leading 2-1. Li fell and hit her head hard on the court, forcing doctors to check her for signs of concussion before letting her to move. "It was a tough match. Azarenka is world No. 1 and defending champion. I think she played better than I did in today's important match, so that's why she can win the title," Li added. Li, the crowd favorite of the final, started the first set with a double-fault. The finalists exchanged breaks in the first set before Li held and broke Azarenka to go 3-1 ahead. Li served for the first set at 5-4 but crumbled and was broken to love. Azarenka's errors in the very next game handed her opponent the first set as the Belarusian double-faulted on set point. After her second medical treatment, Li went back and took Azarenka to break point before the Belarusian held serve. Li was ...

Beijing cough - China Take - January 28,2013 - BONTV China

Posted: 28 Jan 2013 11:00 PM PST

Go to bon.tv to watch the full episode We had Beijing Duck, Beijing Opera and now this fairly self explanatory term to describe the effects of Beijing's dry and less than crystal clear air on the human lungs. It's become a much sought after item on Chinese search engines recently following a number of days of appalling pollution in the capital. In fact air quality indices that measure the number of dangerous small pollutant particles - PM2.5 - were off the charts for seven days. Poor visibility meant flight were canceled, tall buildings disappeared in the smog, and the wearing of masks became commonplace as residents complained of coughs and wheezes. Amidst all this, one of the city's top doctors - He Quanying of Peking University People's Hospital -- caused much online mirth when he objected to the term 'Beijing cough' -- long used by foreigners having trouble acclimatizing to Beijing's atmosphere. The good Dr. He told the Economic Information Daily that it was impossible to link the symptoms to just air pollution, or one particular city and said the term was an "extreme insult to Beijing"!

At Davos, predictions for reform - Biz Wire - January 28, 2013 - BONTV China

Go to www.bon.tv to watch the full episode Follow us on Weibo weibo.com or Twitter.com/ChinaBizWire The head of China's National Economic Research Institute said in Davos that China's economy is now recovering from a soft landing, but the big challenge this year will be to prevent overheating while still promoting growth. Fan Gang told a session on China's growth prospects at the World Economic Forum in the Swiss Alpine resort of Davos that the world's second-largest economy should grow faster this year than it did last year. China posted growth of 7.8 per cent last year, its weakest performance since the 1990s, but its economy started reviving at the end of the year when growth rose to 7.9 per cent, up from the two previous quarters. The recovery would coincide with China's new leadership. Xi Jinping was chosen in November to succeed President Hu Jintao as party leader, and will take over the presidency in March. Fan said growth could be supported by local governors' plans for infrastructure spending and new housing construction spurred by migration from rural areas to cities. The challenge, he said, will be to see how the central government and the banking system can work together to maintain growth while not allowing the added government spending to promote further heavy borrowing and overheating of investments. Fan said 2013 could also be the year to start a new round of financial, economic, regulatory, and social reforms that the Chinese people are expecting. Fan ...
